1. Google

 Google is the world's largest search engine and is the first place people go to find information online. It was founded in 1998 by Stanford University students Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were both PhD candidates at Stanford. The name Google is a portmanteau of Googol (10100) and Leicht-Computer (or lightweight computer). In 2001, Google began indexing web pages and since then its algorithms have been refined to provide the best results for searchers. Today, Google is still the dominant player in internet searches and boasts over 2 billion users per month.

 2. Bing

 it is a 2nd largest search engine after Google. Microsoft bought out the search giant Ask Jeeves in June 2006 and rebranded it as Bing. Bing offers similar features to Google including image searching, maps, shopping, news, sports, finance, blogs, and video.

 3. DuckDuckGo

 Founded in 2008, DuckDuckGo is a private, free, and open-source search engine. It does not track user data and claims to be 'the simplest way to search'. It uses a proprietary method to rank websites and doesn't use any advertising.

 4. Yahoo!

 Yahoo! is a web portal owned by Oath Inc., a subsidiary of Verizon Communications. It was founded by Jerry Yang and David Filo in March 1994.  In August 1995, the company released its first web browser, Netscape Navigator 1.0.

 Ask.com is a consumer-focused search engine based in Seattle, Washington. Founded in 1996, Ask acquired IAC Search in 2009 and Ask Jeeves in 2010. Ask is owned by IAC/InterActiveCorp. Ask.com is known for being the first major search engine to offer paid advertisements.

 Seznam is a Czech language social networking website. It was founded in 2002 and is based in Prague, Czech Republic. In 2012, Seznam had over 10 million registered members.
